I love getting my nails done, but it’s not always in my budget. I’ve learned that I can save money if I do my own nails at home. A gel manicure is pretty easy to do and it doesn’t take up too much time (I usually turn on the tv when I do my nails, then I can enjoy a show and paint my nails at the same time). I purchase my supplies from Amazon. I think Amazon is the best place to get your items, especially when you are first starting out. You need to buy a ph bond, foundation gel and top coat when you first start. I purchased a trio set from Amazon, that seemed to be the best deal. Then you can find (colored) gel polish from other places like: Sally Beauty Supply, Ulta, Target, and some grocery stores. I really like the Harmony brand (I purchase from Amazon) and Red Carpet (I get from Ulta).

To start you need: 1. A UV lamp 2. Ph Bond 3. Foundation Gel 4. Top it Off  5. Rubbing alcohol 6. Nail file

To start, you’ll want to lightly buff your nails.

Then apply your ph bond, this helps dehydrate the nail so the polish adheres.

You’ll then apply the foundation gel, and then use the uv lamp to “cook” the first layer.

I paint both of my hands, and then stack them in my uv lamp to make the process go by faster.

The uv lamp automatically turns off, so you’ll know when you are ready to add your colored polish. Add 1 coat of colored polish and then “cook” your nails again.

Depending on the color, you’ll have to do 1-3 coats of your color. I don’t recommend doing more than 3 coats, after the 3rd coat your nails can be more susceptible to chipping.

After you get your colored polish on you’ll need to add the top coat (top it off).

Once you’ve finished applying the top coat you’ll want to use the rubbing alcohol, this gets the sticky residue off.

Use your nail file if you have any rough edges.

And voila! A perfect at home gel manicure.
